Senior Associate - Business Development

Who You Are

You are a strong communicator who loves working with teams and can expertly manage up, down and across staff. You have at least five years of experience working in the consulting industry managing multiple projects, writing extensively and developing business development or grant proposals.  

As a Business Developer (50%), you:

  • Support business development activities in collaboration with the Leadership Team
  • See a business proposal through, from its early stages of consideration to the final send-off to potential clients
  • Write beautifully and concisely, tailoring to different audiences
  • Speak with intention and clarity
  • Nurture client relationships and spark new ones
  • Help us improve our systems for generating and tracking new business

As a Communicator, you (25%):

  • Collaborate with our analysts to translate their findings into clear, evidence-supported findings that our clients can easily digest
  • Know how to write for audiences who have different levels of experience with data
  • Bring fresh ideas for communicating our findings to the wide range of stakeholders who use our evaluations to inform their work

As a Project Manager (25%), you:

  • Juggle the who, what, when and how of all the pieces of research, evaluation and strategy consulting projects.
  • See the most efficient pathways for planning and delegating tasks, balancing team members’ roles and capacities as well as the project’s budget and needs.
  • Bring a project director’s vision to fruition by planning, coordinating, and communicating in close collaboration with your project directors.
  • Facilitate open dialogue. You ensure timely and effective communication takes place among project team members, and with our external partners and clients.
  • Think ahead. You anticipate project changes and proactively identify strategies to address them.
  • Manage across, not just within, projects. You collaborate with other project managers to problem-solve cross-project priorities, staffing needs and timelines.
  • Nurture productive client relationships. You listen for our clients’ underlying needs and ensure that our team’s work addresses them.

As a Team Leader, you:

  • Listen to your colleagues and ask good questions.
  • Remain calm and retain your sense of humor under pressure.
  • Build and sustain positive team dynamics, unpacking and navigating conflict among team members with different perspectives

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • At least five years of professional experience working as a consultant or managing consultants in a similar environment.
  • Advanced degree or relevant experience in business, education, social sciences (or any discipline that requires critical thinking) public policy, administration, or health
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applied research and/or evaluation methods.
  • Experience with nonprofits or philanthropy
  • Experience in planning and facilitating meetings
  • Experience supervising staff and leading teams
  • Knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
